In 2005 Kate DeAraugo won the nationally-televised talent quest, "Australian Idol". (Unfortunately, the official website for series three of "Australian Idol" is no longer online.)

Prior to her 2003 move to Queensland, Kate DeAraugo had become a staple of the Bendigo live theatre scene, performing in various shows with theatre group Community Theatre Bendigo. (These included "Jesus Christ Superstar", where she took on the role that Marcia Hines (Australian Idol judge) had used to MAKE HISTORY in the 1970s.)
